About

Can anyone with Internet access take a free service like WordPress.com and build a web business?

Can they do it in a week?

This site is the journal of my development of a web business in a week model, and an experiment to see if it works on a free platform.

Roadmap

My rough plan for this website is:

Play with this site to explore WordPress.com
Journal the growth of shrewdies.com and shrewdies.net
Write content for a new free website – workingtitle.wordpress.com (wonder if anybody has got that?)
launch workingtitle.wordpress.com and track progress to assess viability.

My plan is to set up workingtitle.wordpress.com in a week as a viable business, and continue to work on it to improve it and build authority. You can do this, or take the model and build week1.wordpress.com, week2.wordpress.com etc, until you have your own free niche empire.

I wonder which is best – single authority site or multiple niche site empire? I instinctively prefer the first, but if you can build content quickly for multiple niche sites, without too much interest in the subject, then that can be a way to quickly build a profitable web business.

Web Business Platform Comparison

My main objective is to assess the feasibility of using free WordPress.com as a platform for a successful web business. Part of that assessment is a comparison with other platforms. The ones I have most experience with are full WordPress loaded on my own (shared) server and Site Build It! from SiteSell. I will be referring to these sites during my exploration and preparation phases. During the site build and assessment phases, I will attempt to summarize the key differences, advantages and disadvantages of each site.
